Marita carefully researches the herbs she prescribes to ensure that they come fresh from organic sources. Combining single herbs in a formula creates a sophisticated medicine that complements our own biochemistry. In a formula, the individual herbs serve to counterbalance each other, unlike the “magic bullet” approach common in western thought. Using herbal formulas also eliminates the side effects caused by many pharmaceutical drugs.
Most herbs are taken in the form of capsules or tablets, and occasionally Marita recommends a broth to be taken medicinally. A patient will use the herbs provided by the doctor to make the broth at home. The focus on herbal medicine is on “feeding” the meridian system, which is very different from our Western idea that eating and drinking only feed the stomach, or to feel “full”.
Traditional tongue and pulse diagnosis is utilized when Marita determines the formula and dosage of herbal medication.
Dr. Roussey occasionally prescribes supplements to complement a treatment program. Supplements are often suggested in order to give clinic sessions a “jump start” and are only required for a short period of time. Remember that a person is changing constantly and sometimes the supplement dosage or type needs to be adjusted.
Marita believes that is very important for any supplements of therapeutic value to come from organic sources, are not synthetically produced, have no additives, and are stored for short periods of time only. This is true for all supplements, even vitamin C or calcium.
A common misconception about supplements is that if our bodies are lacking in a particular nutrient that we need to take more of it. The interesting fact about this myth is that if our bodies are not absorbing the nutrient, taking more will not help. Our bodies can learn to utilize the nutrients, which include vitamins, proteins, fats, and minerals from the whole spectrum of foods that we eat. The treatment goal when working with nutrient deficiencies is to use BodyTalk and acupuncture sessions to make the body able to use all foods fully and to function without taking supplements.
Acupuncture, BodyTalk, and Aromatherapy are very complementary modalities: they all work with frequencies to help the body heal. Everything in nature resonates at a particular frequency. Therapeutic-grade aromatherapy oils are used because they resonate with particular body parts. When inhaled or applied topically, the molecules of therapeutic-grade aromatherapy oil enter the bloodstream via the lungs or the skin.
“Aromatic oils transfer healing to the various aspects of our being according to the music in their molecules” —David Stewart, Ph.D.
